12.1.6 POJA-L4400+2587+4401
Title: Eyelid II
Description:
(A, B, C): Increasing magnifications of the eyelid (palpebra), stain Azan, human. The eye lid is a skin fold that covers the eye and can be moved actively by the orbicularis oculi muscle (1). The tough connective tissue skeleton or plate (blue, 3) is called tarsus.
The outside of the lid (o) is covered with a skin-type epithelium, i.e. keratinizing multilayered squamous epithelium, while the inner side (i)
is less keratinized and converts towards the fornix in a multilayered non-keratinizing cylindrical epithelium.
(2) Meibomian glands or modified sebaceous glands all ending in the tip of the eye lid near the hair follicles.
(4) Enlarged excretory duct. (A, 5) Eyelashes (cilia) with glands of Zeiss (sebaceous, associated with the cilia) and apocrine glands of Moll.
Keywords/Mesh: eye, eyelid, eyelash, conjunctiva, fornix, Meibom (gland), Zeiss (gland), Moll (gland), histology, POJA collection
