2.2 POJA-L986
Title: Red pulp of spleen with venous sinusoids (human)
Description: Stain: Azan.
Cross-sections (1) as well as tangential (2) cut sections of sinusoids. Splenic cords (Billroth) (3).
The wall of the sinusoids is composed of elongated rod-like endothelial cells that are orientated parallel to each other in the long axis of the sinus. Depending on the section the shape of nuclei of the endothelial cells differs (arrows). Circumscribing reticular fibres might reveal parallel to each other (2). These fibres consist of collagen type III with micro fibrils and are enclosed by a glycoprotein coating. They surround and reinforce sinusoids. (3) Blue stained structures of macrophage-sheathed capillaries.
Keywords/Mesh: lymphatic tissue, spleen, sinus, red pulp, reticular fibers, histology, POJA collection
