Title: Development of hair structures
Description:
(A, B): Back skin, stain Azan, pig fetus.
(C): Back skin, stain hematoxylin-eosin, postnatal rat.
The series (A, B and C) show the origin of the hair follicles, growing down from the surface epithelium and differentiating
in the various layers that take part in the formation of hair.
(D): Immunoperoxidase staining with DAB and NKI-beteb antibodies as marker for melanocytes (arrow), rat postnatal.
Melanocytes in the epidermis and hair follicles originate from the neural crest, migrate and proliferate as melanoblasts and
differentiate as melanocytes. They produce melanin in melanosomes and transport them into keratinocytes.
Stem cells for melanocytes are going to be located in the hair bulb of each hair follicle.
In adults, however, the origin of stem cells for melanocytes is still finally unresolved.
Follicular pigmentation is a result of structural and functional interactions between follicular melanocytes, matrix keratinocytes
and dermal papilla fibroblasts (a tripartite system).
Keywords/Mesh: skin, fetus, hair development, pilus, hair follicle, melanocyte, keratinocyte, histology, POJA collection
