Title: Eosinophilic myelocyte and neutrophilic myelocyte in bone marrow smear (human) Description: Stain: May-Grünwald-Giemsa (MGG). The eosinophilic myelocyte (1) contains brown-like granules (not orange) in the bluish basophilic cytoplasm. Nucleoli are still visible. Maturation of eosinophils parallels that of neutrophils except for the production of the secondary, specific granules in myelocytes and all later stages. In the neutrophilic myelocyte (2) both primary azurophilic granules and fine dust-like specific granules are present in the otherwise pale blue, basophilic cytoplasm. (3) and (4) are transitions from metamyelocyte to juvenile unsegmented (band form) neutrophils.
