Title: Macula densa in renal corpuscle of kidney XI
Description:
Glomeruli: (1) Macula densa. (2) Granulated juxtaglomerular cells in the wall of the afferent arteriole, (JG cells with renin granules).
(3) Efferent arteriole.
(A): Electron microscopy scheme macula densa, human.
(B): Stain Azan, human.
(C): Silver stain ( Movat), human.
(D): Stain toluidine blue semi-thin plastic section, rabbit.
(E): Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PDH) frozen section, rat. (arrow macula densa).
(F): Immunoperoxidase staining with DAB and antibodies against THP (Tamm-Horsfall protein) also called uromodulin, human.
THP is an epithelial membrane glycoprotein, produced in the TAL (thick ascending limb) and is excreted abundantly in normal urine.
In the matrix of urine casts that is derived from tubular secretions predominantly THP is found instead of albumin.
(G): Immunoperoxidase staining with DAB and antikeratin-7 antibodies (OVTL12/30), human. It shows that the macula densa cells are unstained between the positively stained other cells of this part (cortical thick ascending limb) of the distal tubule.
Keywords/Mesh: urinary system, kidney, glomerulus, macula densa, cytokeratin, Tamm-Horsfall protein, histology, electron microscopy, POJA collection
