Title: Prostate glands
Description:
(A) Stain Azan, human.
(B, D) Corpora amylacea, anti-keratin 7 antibody (OVTL12/30) immunoperoxidase staining with DAB, human.
(C) Stain trichrome Goldner, human.
The survey (A) of the prostate shows centrally the urethra (1), embedded in a periurethral sheath of dense connective tissue
interwoven with redly appearing smooth muscle fibers, the so-called fibromuscular stroma (2).
The connective tissue elements are stained green in (C) while the muscular fibers are stained red.
The submucosal glands (3) show a tubuloalveolar structure. The main glands are called glandulae propriae (5) and are located
more distantly.
Prostatic ducts are visible (4). All epithelial cell types in the alveoli and ducts (B) express cytokeratin 7.
Note that the content of the tubuloalveoli consists of co-colored corpora amylacea (6).
Proliferative prostate cells (D, 7) at older age are easily displayed using anti-keratin 7 antibody-immunoperoxidase staining.
Keywords/Mesh: prostate, tubuloalveolar gland, urethra, prostatic stone, corpus amylaceum, cytokeratin 7, histology, POJA collection
