Title: Survey structure of the jejunum (human)
Description: Stain: (A) Azan. (B) Scheme.
The jejunum wall forms several circular plicae or Kerckring’s folds, which are, however, shorter and less blunt than in the duodenum. The plicae are further amplified with villi and crypts. And there are no Brunner glands in the submucosa. The submucosa is part of the plicae but not of the villi and crypts. The main function of the jejunum is further digestion and resorption of digested food.
(B) Shows the structure scheme of the jejunum.
(1) Tunica mucosa.
(2) Lamina muscularis mucosae.
(3) Tela submucosa.
(4) Tunica muscularis and tela subserosa.
(6) Plica circularis.
(7) Villus.
(8) Crypt.
