Title: Ovarian folliculogenesis (rabbit)
Description: Stain: Azan.
In this strip cartoon the individual magnifications are irrelevant! This strip cartoon is to show in a ‘bird’s-eye’ view in light microscopy the general development of a rabbit primordial follicle onwards.
The oocyte (A, 1) in an intermediary primordial follicle is surrounded by follicular cells (2) and ovarian stroma.
(B) Shows a unilaminar primary (or early pre-antral) follicle. Gradually the staining of a blue zona pellucida (C, 3) or blue basement membrane increases, and a blue glassy membrane or membrana vitrea (4) is formed as a border with the stroma. The amount of follicular or granulosa cells, 5) is increased (C). Multiple layering of granulosa cells (5) as corona radiata of two oocytes in two antral (or vesicular, tertiary) follicles (D). Accumulation of interstitial cells (6) and remnants of degenerated follicles (7) are present.
Keywords/Mesh: female reproductive organs, ovary, ovarian follicle, oocytes, theca cells, granulosa cells, membrana vitrea, primordial follicle, tertiary follicle, histology, POJA collection
