4.1.1 POJA-L4000+La0165
Title: Survey duodenum with plicae (human)
Description: Stain: (A) Azan.
(A): (1) The survey shows about five plicae circulares or Kerckring’s folds which form a considerable articulated relief in the duodenum. They are created by the mucosa and submucosa layers, and surrounded by the tunica muscularis (7+8) and adventitia (9).
(1) Villi build on the plicae.
(2) Crypts (of Lieberkühn).
(3) Lamina propria infiltrated with lymphoid cells.
(4) Lamina muscularis mucosae regulating the mobility of the mucosa.
(5) Brunner glands producing mucus (MUC6) with bicarbonate.
(6) Connective tissue layer of the tunica submucosa with many blood vessels.
(7) Inner circular smooth muscle layer.
(8) Outer longitudinal smooth muscle layer.
(9) Tunica adventitia.
(B): Hematoxylin-eosin. Detail of the Brunner glands (white) that terminate in the bottom of the crypts of Lieberkühn (arrow).
Keywords/Mesh: duodenum, plicae, Brunner glands, Lieberkühn crypts, histology, POJA collection
