Title: Penis
Description:
(A, B, C) Stain Azan, human. (D) Stain trichrome Goldner, human.
In the survey of the penis in (A) the lumen (1) of the urethra is lined with a multiple pseudostratified epithelium that is invaginated
to form cyst-like glandular structures.
Close around the urethra a blue-stained band of connective tissue layer (proper lamina)
that continues into the corpus spongiosum with many blood-filled labyrinth-like caverns or cisterns (B) created by trabeculae.
The trabeculae are enforced by muscular fibers (2) and contain numerous branches of the muscular helicine arteries (3).
In (C) nerve bundles (4) are found. The arrows in (C) point to the thin endothelial lining of the cisterns.
(D) Between the tunica albuginea (A, 6) and the fascia penis (not shown here) branches of blood vessels (D, 8), nerve bundles (D, 7)
and pacinian corpuscles (D, 5) are present.
Keywords/Mesh: penis, cavernous body, corpus spongiosum, urethra, pacinian corpuscle, histology, POJA collection
