(A-C): At (1) hemorrhagic areas; (2) swollen chorionic villi with formation of incomplete cytotrophoblast cell columns (3); (4) fibrinoid depositions with trophoblast cells; (5) internal circular layers of the muscularis with inflammatory infiltration (6). At higher magnification (C) chorionic villus (2) with a.o. syncytiotrophoblast cells (7).
