Title: Brush cell in lung periphery (1) Description: Electron microscopy, rat. In the proximal as well as in the terminal airways a special type of cell the so-called brush(-border) cell could be observed. In this picture this cell (X) is located in the alveolar space. At (*) the brush border, the dense cytoplasm contains many organelles. (C) is a capillary that contains an erythocyte and part of a neutrophilic granulocyte (1). The surrounding interstitium contains interstitial cells (2), collagen and elastin. Small dense fluffy granular spots everywhere represent coagulated serum proteins. Title: Brush cell in lung periphery (2) Description: Electron microscopy, rat. In this image an enlargement of the same brush cell. At (1) the brush border of thick plump microvilli. In the cytoplasm a Gogi area, mitochondria, ribosomes and bundles of filaments (*) are present. Characteristic is the presence of glycogen particles (↓). Coagulated serum proteins are shown as small dense fluffy granular spots outside the cell. |
