Title: Rhabdomyolysis IV Histochemical fibre typing
Description:
(A): Following the ATPase staining after pre-incubation at pH 4.2 the image (A) demonstrates light pink-stained myofibres as type II fibres (ATPase negative). Dark brown-stained fibres are the positive type I ones while the smallest fibres stain lighter brown. These small myofibres are considered regenerating fibres classified as type IIC fibres. The latter are polygonal squeezed-like fibres with unstained central or peripheral nuclei. Files of these small fibres react positively with Leu-19 (B). Leu-19 or CD 56, also known as NCAM is an antibody to the glycoprotein neural adhesion molecule. This molecule is localised on the surfaces of neural cells, in motor endplates of myofibres and as well as in regenerating fibres.
Keywords/Mesh: locomotor system, skeletal muscle, striated muscle, neuromuscular disease, myopathy, rhabdomyolysis, type I fibre, type II fibre, ATPase, regeneration, NCAM, Leu-19, CD 56, pathology, POJA collection
