Human foetus, Haematoxylin-eosin, articular cavity: synovial layer with connective tissue, many capillaries and numerous fibroblasts that make up most of the cells in the intimal lining layer of the normal synovium. Using immunohistochemistry these fibroblasts appear CD 55 positive.
CD55, a glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchored, complement-regulating protein (decay-accelerating factor), is expressed by fibroblast-like synoviocytes (FLS) with high local abundance in the intimal lining layer. CD55 regulates complement activation in situ.
