The islet of Langerhans (1) comprises several types of endocrine cells which are all in close vicinity to capillaries (3). They produce glucagon, insulin and somatostatin and others. The islet is embedded between the serous, exocrine gland cells arranged in acini (2) and the latter produces a whole scale of degradative enzymes and bicarbonate liquid. Between the pancreatic cells also ganglion cells (B, 4) are found for the innervation of the organ. (3) Capillaries.
