16.1.3 POJA-L 7062+7066 Osteoblasts 1
Title: Osteoblasts 1
Description:
(A): Human foetus, desmal ossification, Haematoxylin-eosin.
(B): Rat, electron microscopy, osteoblast.
(1): Mesenchym.
(2): Osteoblast. The osteoblasts are regularly lined up along the osteoid that they produce, the cells are derived from the condensed mesenchym cells (1). The osteoblast (B) has a well developed RER system, Golgi apparatus and secretory vesicles.
(3): Subosteoblast layer (osteoid). ). Note that in (B) the collagen fibrils are finer and of smaller diameters than in layer 4.
(4): Mineralised osteoid or bone matrix. The black dots in (B) are accumulations of hydroxyapatite.
