7.2 POJA-L1898
Title: Carcinoma in situ, cervix cytology (human)
Description: Stain Papanicolaou.
Pap smear test shows no pyknotic nuclei in acidophilic cells (1) and immature cells (2). Clumps of large atypical nuclei (3) are indicative for carcinoma in situ (CIS). Note polymorphonuclear granulocytes (4) and Döderlein bacteria (5). (By courtesy of Mrs. R. Salet-van de Pol, Chief of Cytopathology, Department of Pathology, Radboud university medical center, Nijmegen, The Netherlands).
Background: Atypical cells replace the whole epithelium with loss of maturation and presence of enlarged crowded hyperchromatic nuclei.
Keywords/Mesh: female reproductive organs, cervix, cytology, cervical intraneoplasia, carcinoma in situ, histology, POJA collection.
