7.1 POJA-L1918+1922+1923+1924+1925
Title: Endometrioid cystadenocarcinoma of ovary (human, adult)
Description: Case p140. Stain: (A) Hematoxylin-eosin YS; (B) Periodic acid-Schiff (PAS); (C) Fluorescent isothiocyanate (FITC)-labeled OVTL12/5 (immunofluorescence, frozen section with keratin 5,7,14 and 19); (D) CK7 (OVTL12/30) antikeratin-7 antibody immunoperoxidase staining with diaminobenzidin reaction (DAB) and hematoxylin counterstaining.
(A): Aggregation of neoplastic tubuli (1) and glandular formation (2). Nuclear atypia and mitoses, fibrocellular stroma (3) and fat cells deposition (4).
(B): PAS-positive secretion in lumen of neoplastic tubuli as well as in small acini.
(C): OVTL12/5 staining epithelial cell types of the tumor, leaving stroma (3) and necrosis (5) negative.
(D): Tubuloacinar formation of invaded tumor cells. CK7 positive reacting cells with more distinct apical staining towards lumina.
(E): Subcutaneous second passage of this tumor in nude mice. Note dedifferentiation of tumor nodules. (6) dermal striated muscles and fat tissue.
Background: See also Background POJA-L1476+L1760+L1770+L1750. With some exceptions a.o. large intestine, prostate cytokeratin 7 is a basis low molecular weight keratin which is generally found in simple lining epithelia e.g. epithelial cells of ovary, lung, and breast). Most mucous or serous glands also express this keratin 7. During abnormal differentiation of epithelial cells CK7 expression remains preserved. Upon transforming into malignant, well-differentiated serous tumors, detectable ovarian carcinoma epitopes gradually are additionally developed.
Keywords/Mesh: female reproductive organs, ovary, keratin, tumor, female genitalia, ovarian neoplasms, endometrioid ovarian carcinoma, PAS reaction, OVTL12/5 anti keratin antibody, OVTL12/30 anti keratin 7 antibody, immunofluorescence, histology, POJA collection
