Title: Late cap stage of tooth development

Description:
Stain Azan, human embryo.  From top to bottom:
-  Stratified ectoderm with a distinct basal         layer of cuboid cells.
-  Dental lamina giving rise to the cap stage     (centre) and to the primordium  of                     permanent tooth (obliquely upward).           -  Odontogenic organ or enamel organ               (future deciduous tooth surrounded by           fibrous tooth follicle.                          
-  Outer dental epithelium encloses the               stellate reticulum consisting of a network     of ectoderm-derived cells.
-  Inner dental epithelium is seen as a dark       red zone of future ameloblasts covered         by a few cell layers of the stratum                       intermedium.
-  Future odontoblasts are localized just             below the translucent zone close to the         ameloblasts.
-  Dental papilla extends outside the                     cervical loop; it consists of a compact               network of fibroblast-like cells (so-called      pulpal cells).
-  Blood vessels of the papilla and tooth               follicle are present.
-  At the bottom alveolar bone formation          (dark blue).

Description: anti-collagen IV immunoperoxidase  and hematoxylin counterstained, rat embryo.
From top to bottom; 
-  Stellate reticulum.
-  Stratum intermedium.
-  Ameloblasts at the distal side oriented           towards the basal lamina intermingled           with the Korffs’ fibers (collagen, brown          black).
-  Odontoblasts.
-  Brown black-stained structures                          represent basal laminae of blood vessels       in the dental papilla.

-  Darker stained cell layers of the stratum       intermedium.
-  Columnar inner dental epithelium                     (presecretory ameloblasts) at the                     distal side (secretion area) oriented                   towards the basement membrane                     (bluish).              
-  Future odontoblasts are not yet arranged     in epithelioid connection.
-  Compact network of mesenchyme-                   derived cells of the dental papilla                       (future pulp).

-  Stellate reticulum consisting of a loose           network of ectoderm-derived cells.
-  Cell layers of the stratum intermedium.
-  Palisade-arranged columnar                                   presecretory ameloblasts at the distal             side oriented towards the basal lamina           enforced by deposited collagen.
-  Columnar odontoblasts in a epithelioid           arrangement with their secretion                       area close to the same basal lamina.
-  Mesenchym-derived fibroblast-like cells       (so-called pulpal cells) of the dental                   papilla (future pulp).
