14.6 POJA-L6220a+6219a Myophagy and necrosis in bovine skeletal muscle
Title: Myophagy and necrosis in bovine skeletal muscle
Description:
The muscles in (A) and (B) show degrees of degeneration of the contractile system due to a specific way of cold preservation of the muscle tissue. Within the red rectangles destructed parts of the muscle fibre filaments and sarcoplasm are visible (yellow *), together with numerous invaded mononuclear cells and macrophages (B, green arrows) that phagocytise the muscle fibres. The pink (^) in (A) shows a degeneration of a muscle fibre. At (green arrows in A) denser stained contraction bands.
Background:
Similar reactions in the above-mentioned bovine muscle inflammatory myopathy is found in patients with macrophagic myofasciitis (MMF) that is characterised by muscle inflammatory infiltration consisting of PAS-positive macrophages and lymphocytes. MMF is a condition with diffuse arthromyalgias and fatigue and unspecific pain, respectively.
Keywords/Mesh: locomotor system, skeletal muscle, striated muscle, myopathy, degeneration, necrosis, myophagy, pathology, POJA collection
