Title: Gallbladder (human)
Description: Stain: Azan. Different enlargements of the wall of the gallbladder.
The mucosa is richly folded into plicae (B) and wide crypts or foveolae. The epithelium (1) is highly columnar, and their cells produce mucus (slightly stained blue) for surface protection. (arrow↘) shows a tendency to bleb formation (cupulas, artifact) on top of the epithelial cells. (2) Loosely arranged lamina propria.
(3) Spirally curled muscle fibers intermingled with connective tissue (fibromuscularis). Note the small capillaries up to the top of the plicae.
Keywords/Mesh: gallbladder, epithelium, plicae, fibromuscularis, histology, POJA collection
