7.1 POJA-L1927
Title: Serous adenocarcinoma of ovary (human, adult)
Description: Stain: CK7 (OVTL 12/30) antikeratin antibody immunoperoxidase staining with aminoethylcarbazole (AEC) substrate and hematoxylin counterstaining.
(Left side): low magnification of adenocarcinoma, most tubular structures react positively for CK7 (1). Stroma between tumor cells is always negative.
(Right side): negative expression of CK7 in colorectal segment (2), surface lining and deep crypts are distinct negative. Large aggregation of lymphoid cells expanded into proper lamina (3) Adhesive fibrous stroma (4) between neoplasm and normal colorectal segment remains negative.
Background: See also Background POJA-L1476+L1760+L1770+L1750. Cytokeratin 7 is a basis low molecular weight keratin which is found in most glandular and transitional epithelium. CK7 is expressed in epithelial cells of the ovary, lung and breast but a.o. not in large intestines and prostate.
Cytokeratin 7 (OVTL12/30) is useful in discriminating positive neoplastic cells of primary ovarian tumors (and metastases), including mucinous tumors versus normal colon or colon carcinomas. Surface ovarian epithelium or surface-derived epithelial nests that are sequestrated into the cortex still maintain their keratin expression (a.o. cytokeratin 7). Serous adenocarcinomas account for ca. 40% of all ovarian cancers and appear to be the most common malignant tumors. They could be partially solid and these areas are composed of closely packed papillae. Destructive infiltrative stromal invasion is evident with ingrowth of solid cell sheets of the tumor.
Keywords/Mesh: female reproductive organs, ovary, colon, keratin 7, OVTL12/30 anti keratin 7 antibody, female genitalia, ovarian neoplasms, serous adenocarcinoma, histology, POJA collection
