Title: Enzyme histochemical pattern in the pig kidney: SDH and ZFFA IV
Description:
(A): SDH (succinate dehydrogenase), the glomeruli are negative, most tubules are positive, the medullar rays with collecting tubules
are weaker. SDH is a key enzyme in the Krebs cycle of the mitochondria and catalyzes the oxidation of succinate to fumarate.
The enzyme is bound to the cristae of the inner mitochondrial membrane and is characteristic for the oxidative potential of a cell or
tissue, i.e. the content of mitochondria. The activity is visualized with nitroblue-tetrazolium salt (NBT) yielding a purple color.
(B): Acid phosphatase (ZFFA). ZFFA: tubuli are strong positive, glomeruli are nearly negative.
Keywords/Mesh: urinary system, kidney, tubules, succinate dehydrogenase, acid phosphatase, enzyme histochemistry, histology, POJA collection
