13.1 POJA-L-4510+4512
Title: Lipofuscin in cardiocytes (ventricle, senium human)
Description:
(A): Cross-sectioned adult cardiocytes, HE, autopsy, young adult. Note characteristic irregular outline of the branching cardiocytes and some anisokaryosis of the nuclei.
(B): Cross-sectioned cardiocytes, HE, autopsy, senium. Note heavy lipofuscin accumulation in almost all the branching cardiocytes, central nuclei are large and irregular (anisokaryosis). The lipofuscin pigment is a membrane bound orange-brown granular material consisting of residual phospholipids from cell degradation, being prominent in heart muscle cells of elderly people.
Keywords/Mesh: heart, ventricle, myocardiocyte, cardiocyte, myofibrils, lipofuscin, anisokaryosis, histology, POJA collection
