Title: Pituicytes (pars nervosa III) in hypophysis
Description:
(A): Neurohypophysis, stain Azan, human. The pars nervosa or neurohypophysis receives numerous non-myelinated axons from the hypothalamus. Their hormone products are stored in Herring bodies. The pituicytes (with yellow pigment) here are a kind of glia cells involved in the regulation of the release or inhibition of the stored hormones.
(B - D): Neurohypophyses, electron microscopy, rat. The cells with the large electron-dense lipid droplets are the pituicytes that are interspersed with long slender cell extensions between the Herring dilations that contain the small electron-dense hormone granules (oxytocin and ADH).
Keywords/Mesh: hypophysis, pituitary gland, neurohypophysis, pituicyte, Herring body, ADH, oxytocin, histology, electron microscopy, POJA collection
