Title: Electron micrograph of cross sectioned Z-line region II
Description:
The cross section through the Z-line is partially tangentially: the I-bands regions are located on either side of the Z-line. (1): Mitochondria, they also contain matrix granules, difficult to discriminate from a single glycogen granule.
(2): Glycogen particles. Dispersed particles or granules are also found within the sarcomere. It is quite common to detect a few glycogen granules inside mitochondria of human muscles.
(3): I-band.
(4): Z-line. (5): A-band.
Arrow represents a collapsed triad structure.
