Title: The effect of hypophysectomy on the testis
Description:
(A) Stain Mallory, rat. (B) Stain methylene blue, mouse.
(A): Hypophysectomy in rats usually results in considerable loss of testicular weight and reduction in serum
testosterone level, while also the maturation of Sertoli cells is hampered. (A, 1) Sertoli cell.
(A, 2): Secondary spermatocyte. (A, 3) Within the Sertoli’s cytoplasm maturation and differentiation of spermatids
are hindered. No differentiation into mature sperm cells.
(B): In the normal mouse (B), spermatogonia (1), the early spermatocytes (2) and young spermatids (3) further differentiate into sperm cells (5) with tails extending towards the lumen of the seminiferous tubules. (7) Sertoli cell. (6) Cluster of interstitial cells (Leydig) and one capillary.
Keywords/Mesh: testis, hypophysectomy, spermatogenesis, spermiogenesis, Sertoli cell, histology, POJA collection
