(B): GPox (glycerophosphate oxidase).
(C): AFFA (alkaline phosphatase).
(D): SDH (succinate dehydrogenase).
(E): AMPase (adenosine monophosphatase or 5’-nucleotidase).
In survey: the enzyme profile shows that the levels of alkaline phosphatase and the AMPase are high in the renal cortex and almost
absent in the medullar area. The other three enzymes are also preferentially expressed in the cortical area and distinctly less in the
medulla especially in the papilla.
The activity profile is related to the oxidatief capacity, ion-transport, water resorption and filtration activity.
As an example: The experimental effect of different drugs on the excretory activities of the kidneys are simultaneously and easily to
be observed using of whole kidney serial sections stained for e.g. enzyme histochemical activities.
