16.1.3 POJA-L7126+7120+7122 From osteoblast to osteocyte 2
Title: From osteoblast to osteocyte 2
Description:
Electron micrographs of rat desmal ossification process.
(A): (1): Young granulocytes in the space of bone marrow (2).
(3): Fat cell. (4): Osteoblasts. (5): Migrating macrophage.
(B): (6): Is a detail (right corner) of the low survey in (A). Osteoblast with mitochondria and extended RER. (7): Subosteoblastic layer rich in collagen fibres.
(C): (8): Solitary osteocyte with extended RER and Golgi. (9): Surrounding mineralised osteoid or bone matrix. (10): Cytoplasmic processes post-formative osteocyte.
The osteocyte still has a elaborate RER, Golgi area, mitochondria and lysosomes. There are less cytoplasmic processes, the perilacunar space is widened, no osmiophilic lamina (thin very dense outline of the lacuna directly around the osteocyte) is present and some cell membrane damage appears present. The osteocyte is considered as a post-formative osteocyte.
