The histochemical reaction with the indicated antibodies illustrates the presence of actin and desmin in the lamina muscularis mucosae and derived muscle fibers. Note that also the wall of some blood vessels contains the said muscle fibers.
The scheme (E) shows several layers in the colon: (1) Crypt epithelium. (2) Lamina propria. (3) Lamina muscularis mucosae. (4) Tela submucosa. (5) Tunica muscularis mucosae comprising two layers.
