14.3 POJA-L6006+6008 Electron micrograph of myocytes + 5’nucleotidase activity (rat)
Title: Electron micrograph of myocytes + 5’nucleotidase activity (rat)
Description:
(A): Smooth muscle myocytes stained for ecto-5’nucleotidase activity, shown as dark small grains (1) at the outer surface of the cells. The properties of the ectonucleotidases on the myocyte provide a milieu at the cell surface that tends to be poor in nucleotides, especially ATP and ADP (P2 purinoceptor agonists), and rich in adenosine (a P1 purinoceptor agonist) during periods of supply of extracellular nucleotides Properly cut myocytes show their nuclei in the middle of the cell.
(A, B) (2): Close to a continuous basal lamina dense plaque serving as adherence points (attachment plaques) for myofilaments. Note classical perinuclear localisation of mitochondria and endoplasmic reticulum.
Keywords/Mesh: locomotor system, smooth muscle, dense plaque, 5’nucleotidase, electron microscopy, histology, POJA collection
