4.1.1 POJA-L-3913B
Title: Survey and detail of the esophagus (human)
Description: Stain: Hematoxylin-eosin-Weigert.
The lumen of the human esophagus is covered with squamous non-keratinizing epithelium (1). The lamina propria mucosae (2) underlies the epithelium, being rich in collagen and reticular and elastic fibers in order to facilitate the movement of the tract caused by both the lamina muscularis mucosae (3) and the tunica muscularis that consists of inner layer of circular muscles (6) and an outer layer of longitudinal muscles (7). The Tela submucosa (4) is also a (loosely) connective tissue layer. (5) Glandulae oesophageae in the submucosa, producing lubricating mucus.
Keywords/Mesh: esophagus, squamous epithelium, glands, histology, POJA collection
