(A): Young bone (3) with bone marrow, postnatal rat, covered with periost (1). The muscle fibres are inserted in between the periost cells. Merely the muscle fibres are stained positively with polydesmin antibodies (immunoperoxidase). As a result in a microscopic survey it is easy to detect quickly desmin-positive normal myofibres between all other cellular and fibrous components in necrotic tissue, in desmoplastic tissue or in tumour tissue.
