Title: Various segments of renal tubules (XXI) in the human kidney
Description:
(A): Scheme nephron.
(1) Glomerulus. (6) Ascending thin limb (ATL).
(2) Urinary pole. (7) Distal straight tubule (DST or TAL).
(3) Proximal convoluted tubule (PCT). (8) Distal convoluted tubule (DCT).
(4) Proximal straight tubule (PST). (9) Connective tubule (CT).
(5) Descending thin limb (DTL). (10) Cortical (and medullary) collecting duct (CCD and MCD) .
(B): Stain trichrome Goldner. Medulla: (1) Inner medullary collecting ducts (IMCD); (2) Henle’s loop (intermediate tubule or ATL/DTL).
(C): Immunoperoxidase staining with DAB and anti keratin-7 antibodies (OVTL12/30) showing that IMCD (inner medullary collecting duct), ATL and DTL in the medulla are all positive.
(D): Immunoperoxidase staining with DAB and antibodies against Tamm-Horsfall protein (THP) or uromodulin that is produced by
the thick ascending limb in the medulla (mTAL, 3). The OMCD or outer medullary collecting ducts (1) are negative.
(E): Immunoperoxidase staining with DAB and antibodies against CaBP 28kDa (calcium-binding protein) in the cortex.
CCD or cortical collecting ducts (4) are positive; PST or proximal straight tubules (5) are negative.
Keywords/Mesh: urinary system, kidney, cytokeratin 7, Tamm-Horsfall protein, calcium-binding protein, renal tubule, collecting duct, histology, POJA collection
