Title: Endometrial glands (uterus, human, adult)
Description: Higher magnifications in black-white images of the glands in different periods.
(A): Proliferative period. (1) Surface epithelium with characteristic connective tissue (stroma) of spindle-shaped cells; (2) Capillary.
(B): Secretory period with so-called saw-toothed glands, dilated tortuous glands in predecidual stroma.
(C): Mid secretory period (glycogen in subnuclear vacuoles). Stroma shows edema (*) and decidualisation is indicated by vacuolised (glycogen) stromal cells. During nidation stroma cells transform into so called decidua cells because a.o they accumulate glycogen and obtain an epithelioid appearance. This phenomenon is called decidualization.
Keywords/Mesh: female reproductive organs, uterus, endometrial glands, decidualization, endometrium, menstrual cycle, histology, POJA collection.
