4.2.1 POJA-L-3777+3779+3778+3780
Title: Examples of Mitochondrial deviations in liver diseases (human)
Description: Electron micrographs.
(A, B) Tropical disease (probably malaria). Long slender crystalline inclusions in mitochondria (2). (1) Glycogen.
(C) Alcoholic hepatitis. Crystalline inclusions in mitochondria (3) surrounded by fragmented smooth endoplasmic reticulum.
(D) Obstetric liver atrophy. Broad crystalline inclusions in mitochondria (4).
Background: It is presumed that the crystalline inclusions are deposits of the enzyme creatine kinase in its crystalline lattice form. In various diseases and especially most common in neuromuscular myopathies the presence of crystalline mitochondrial inclusions are wellknown and extensively described.
Keywords/Mesh: liver, crystalline inclusions, mitochondrial creatine kinase, mitochondrial myopathy, alcholic hepatitis, malaria, obstetric liver atrophy, electron microscopy, POJA collection
