Endocrine islet of pancreas located between the exocrine acini. The islet consists of clusters of well capillarized (5) epithelial cells (6) (α-, β- and δ- cells, PP- and D1 cells) that produce respectively glucagon, insulin and somatostatin and others.
(1, arrow): Capillary (insuloacinar portal system) at the edge of a thin capsule around the islet of Langerhans.
(2): Serous acinar cells in the exocrine part of the pancreas.
(3): Centroacinar cell in exocrine part.
(5): Capillaries within the islet.
(6): Endocrine cell types.
