Title: Choroid plexus in adult cerebrum
Description:
(A): Stain hematoxylin-eosin, 3rd ventricle, human. (1) Glandula pinealis. (2) Plexus choroideus hanging as papillae in
the ventricular space.
(B): Stain hematoxylin-eosin, 3rd ventricle, human. Shows the cuboidal cell lining around stroma and a vast capillary network.
These specialized ependymal cells produce about 20 ml cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) per hour.
(C): Immunoperoxidase staining with DAB and anti-prealbumin antibodies showing that prealbumin is present
in these cells at high levels (human), being largely responsible for the prealbumin content in the CSF.
The prealbumin is not produced by these epithelial cells. The choroid plexus cells express also the aquaporin-1
ion channel modulating the CSF production.
