Hypercellular marrow as a result of excessive proliferation of erythroid cells (numerous dark nuclei) and of the megakaryocytic lineage (tendency to cluster). (1): Fat cells in bone marrow. (2): Megakaryocytes. (3): Erythropoietic cell types. (4): Capillary with erythrocytes. Background: Polycythemia vera (PV) or primary proliferative polycythemia results in an increased production of red blood cells and sometimes also of granulocytes and platelets.
