Title: Immunofluorescence staining of connective tissue components in cortical interstitium IV of the human kidney
Description:
(A): Kidney cortex, stain Azan. Blue-stained fibrillary structures are connective tissue elements. Note cross-sections of the medullar rays
(grouping of small tubuli in the centre and at lower right corner).
(B): Immunofluorescence with antibodies against vimentin that is present in about all non-epithelial cell types, particularly in
the mesangial area of the glomeruli and in the connective tissue surrounding blood vessels.
(C): Ditto against collagen IV which is an essential part of the renal basal lamina of the tubuli and bood vessels.
Collagen IV shows an equally reaction pattern as HSPG in the tubular basement membranes and in the glomeruli.
(D): Ditto against collagen VI ( associated with collagen type I) reveals the same pattern as for collagen IV.
In renal fibrotic lesions microfibrillar collagen type VI increases considerable.
Keywords/Mesh: urinary system, kidney, interstitium, vimentin, collagen IV, collagen VI, basement membrane, histology, POJA collection
