In the survey (A) many cross sections through central veins (1) and subsequent sublobular veins (arrow,↘) are cut.
(2) Portal triads with branches of portal veins, of hepatic arteries.
(B) Detail of a portal triad. (4) Sinusoids between the branching rows of hepatic cords.
(C) Central vein in open connection with the sinusoids. (5) Blood forming islets in the sinusoids where different stages of erythropoietic progenitor cells are found. During the fetal development and sometimes also during adult severe anemia blood cells are formed in the liver. Blood stem cells are usually located in the space of Disse.
