4.4.1 POJA-L3552
Title: Endocrine cell types in islet of Langerhans in pancreas (dog)
Description: Electron micrographs of δ-cells (A, 3), of α- cells (B, 1), β-cells (B, 2) and δ-cells (B, 3).
The delta cells produce somatostatin. Their granules are fewer electron-dense and more homogenous than those of the α- and β-cells, while also the halo is absent or less conspicuous.
The β-cells, producing insulin, possess granules with a clear crystalloid like inclusion surrounded by a lucent halo.
The α-granules, containing glucagon, do have a round diffuse and electron-dense content with a small halo around.
Keywords/Mesh: pancreas, endocrine. α-cells, β-cells, δ-cells, electron microscopy, histology, POJA collection
