16.1.4 POJA-L7136+7137+7135 Foetal metacarpophalangeal joint (hand)
Title: Foetal metacarpophalangeal joint (hand)
Description:
(A, B and C): Human foetus metacarpophalangeal joint, trichrome Goldner stain.
(1): Epiphysis of the base of the proximal phalange.
(2): Epiphysis of the metacarpal bone.
(3): Synovium that is divided in the synovial layer with blood vessels close to the articular cavity and followed by a fibrous layer that is bordered peripherally by the fibrous collateral ligament of the metacarpophalangeal joint.
The rounded heads of the metacarpal bone articulates with the proximal phalanges, their atricular surfaces are convex. The bases of the proximal phalanges carry concave, oval facets.
Keywords/Mesh: locomotor system, bone, cartilage, phalange, foetus, epiphysis, synovium, articular cavity, POJA collection, histology
