6.1 POJA-L2663+2664+2665+2666
Title: Adult testes
Description:
(A) Stain Azan, human. (B) Satin hematoxylin-eosin, rabbit. (C) GPOX, pig. (D) ATPase, pig.
The two surveys (A, human and B, rabbit) show that the overall structure of the testis, i.e. the convoluted seminiferous tubules (2), is quite similar. The testis is surrounded with a dense connective tissue sheath, the so-called tunica albuginea (1). The tubule is formed by a thin layer of connective tissue fibers creating a basal lamina to which, on the inner site, are attached the Sertoli cells, spermatogonia and developing spermatides. The glycerophosphate oxidase enzyme (GPOX) functions as a maturation marker enzyme since its activity is predominantly located in the upper zone (arrows, C, 3) where maturing spermatids are found embedded in Sertoli cells. The ATPase-activity, however, is located predominantly in the basal lamina, the lamina propria limitans (D, 4) related to selective transport through the blood-testis barrier.
Keywords/Mesh: testis, seminiferous tubule, glycerophosphate oxidase, ATPase, histology, POJA collection
