Title: Cervix (endocervix, human, adult)
Description: Electron microscopy.
(A): Survey of endocervix, (1) lumen of cervical canal with one-layered simple cuboidal epithelium (2), with scattered electron-dense secretion granules and microvilli. The intercellar spaces (*) are dilated partly due to fixation procedures. (3) part of a cervical gland with secretion product (4) and a electron-dense neutrophilic granulocyte. The gland cells are well provided with microvilli and contain few electron-dense secretion granules. A few electron-light cells represent intraepithelial lymphocytes and macrophages. In the gland (5) stroma with a capillary, fibroblast and a single dark apoptotic blood cell.
(B): Surface microvillous cuboidal epithelial cells (2) with few scattered electron-dense secretion granules and numerous swollen mitochondria (due to operation procedures). (*) the intercellular spaces are dilated. (1) lumen and (5) stroma.
