4.1.1 POJA-L4222+4225+4223+4224
Title: PAS staining on ileum (rat)
Description: Stain: PAS.
The different enlargements (A-D) clearly show that the PAS-positively stained goblet cells are equally distributed through villus and crypts of the ileum.
The secretory granules are filling completely the cytoplasm above the nucleus towards the lumen. The adjacent enterocytes or resorptive cells are of the columnar type.
Note that the apical site of the cells with a brush border are also stained positively, partly due to the existence of a glycocalix coat on the microvilli of the enterocytes.
(B): (1) Villi. (2) Crypts. (3) Tunica muscularis.
Keywords/Mesh: ileum, goblet cells, PAS reaction, villus, crypt, histology, POJA collection
