6.1 POJA-L2696
Title: Head region spermatozoa with acrosome cap
Description:
Electron microscopy, gerbil.
(1): The head region of the maturing spermatozoa consists of densely condensed chromatin of the nucleus still embedded
within the Sertoli cell cytoplasm (3).
(2): The acrosome cap (2) above the nucleus contains the enzymes needed for the fertilization.
(3): Sertoli cell.
The acrosome is formed by the Golgi apparatus and contains lytic enzymes needed for the penetration through the zona pellucida
of the oocyte, such as hyaluronidase, neuramidase, acid phosphatase and proteases.
Keywords/Mesh: testis, sperm, spermatid, acrosome, histology, electron microscopy, POJA collection
