14.1 POJA-L6063-A Muscle spindle in frozen limb muscle (mouse)
14.1 POJA-L6063-A Muscle spindle in frozen limb muscle (mouse)
Title: Muscle spindle in frozen limb muscle (mouse)
Description:
Neuromuscular spindle or stretch receptor partially covered by perimysium connective tissue (blue dotted pen line) or perineural sheath.
(1): Muscle fibre with peripherally located nuclei.
(2): Within the internal capsule there are several modified intrafusal muscle fibres (*). The sensory mechanism of the spindle takes care for the normal tonus and muscle coördination.
(3): Arteriole located in the perimysial connective tissue.
(4): Nerve fibres in the perimysium.
Note that in contrast to paraffin embedded tissues (14.1 POJA-L6062) frozen specimens reveal better preservation of muscle fibres. For diagnostic purposes needle biopsies of the muscle are always quickly deep frozen, and serial thin frozen sections are used for the various stains.
