4.1.1 POJA-L4227+La0173
Title: Vermiform appendix (human)
Description: Stain: (A) Scheme. (B) Azan.
The scheme in (A) shows all layers characteristic for the appendix and other parts of the large intestine.
(1) Tunica mucosa. The lamina muscularis mucosae is not visible here because the layer is filled up with lymphoid cells.
(3) Tela submucosa.
(4) Tunica muscularis.
(5) Folliculi lymphatici solitarii.
(6) Epithelium.
(7) Epithalaxy (local dissolution of the epithelial lining due to lymphocyte activity).
(8) Mesenteriolum, meso-appendix.
The large lymph follicles show clear activated germinal centers and can extent through the tela submucosa. The epithelial ling does not contain villi but crypts only. The epithelial cells bear an apical brush border (enterocytes, water resorption) and are alternated with goblet cells. The tube lumen (B) is filled up with food debris!!
Keywords/Mesh: large intestine, appendix vermiformis, colon, lymph follicles, histology, POJA collection
