4.1.1 POJA-La0142+La0144+La0146+3983+file0197
Title: Stomach (human, dog)
Description: Stain: (A) Alum hematoxylin-eosin mucocarmin. (B, C, D) Alum hematoxylin-eosin azocarmin. (E) Scheme.
The corpus and fundus of the stomach contain gastric glands (E) ending in the broad foveolae at the surface that is formed by single layered columnar and mucoid cells. The whole lamina propria is densely packed with long straight tubules ending on the lamina muscularis mucosae (A). The tunica muscularis layers are not shown here.
The scheme in E depicts the following elements:
(1) Foveola or crypt.
(3) Mucoid surface cells.
(4) Parietal or oxyntic cells producing HCl and intrinsic factor.
(5) Neck mucous cells producing mucus and lysozyme.
(6) Enteroendocrine cells.
(7) Chief or zymogenic cells producing pepsinogen and lipases. They show here a faint but granular appearance.
The parietal cells are stained most intensively red or pink (eosinophilic) due to the very high content of mitochondria.
Keywords/Mesh: stomach, fundus, glandulae gastricae, foveolae, parietal cells, chief cells, neck cells, histology, POJA collection
